Despite the restrictions imposed by the municipality for properties within the historic center of Syracuse, the Meraki B&B is committed, wherever possible, to eco-sustainability.
Regarding this approach, you will find the following options:
- 2 solar panels on the terrace, which harness the sun's rays to produce hot water, providing a small boost in environmental impact and energy savings;
- For each room, towels are changed every four days and at each check-out, to prevent excessive water waste. This is not mandatory; in fact, it is the guest's choice: if the guest decides not to change their towels, they themselves are the protagonists of a happy ending, gradually reducing their water consumption and environmental impact;
- Four keys are provided for each room: the first key opens the main entrance door, the second key opens the room's front door, the third key is for the private safe, and the fourth key turns the room's electrical system on and off (excluding the minibar and air conditioning). This last choice is designed to reduce electricity waste and have a smaller impact on the environment when guests are away from their rooms.
- The property has five waste bins: general waste, organic waste, paper, glass, and plastic. Management encourages all guests to recycle.This choice helps limit the growth of landfills and recover the raw materials that make up waste (recycling). A simple gesture helps accommodations reduce laundry loads, including water, electricity, and labor costs.
According to estimates from the relevant body, the items that consume the most water in hospitality facilities are showers, toilets, and laundry. Guests can do their part to address this challenge by using towels for several days in a row, just as we normally do at home. Where there are savings, whether in water or energy, the environment benefits.
