White, yellow and blue lines
In Syracuse you will find parking spaces marked with the following colors:
White lines: free parking.
Yellow lines: parking reserved for certain categories (e.g. residents of Ortigia, disabled people, etc.).
Blue lines: hourly paid parking.
Coupons and apps for parking
In the blue-striped spaces along the streets, parking and in the Talete and Molo San Antonio car parks are paid hourly. To pay for parking on the blue lines, you can use the special coupons ("scratch cards") or you can install the Easy Park app and pay via your smartphone, remembering to leave a sheet of paper indicating "Easy Park" on the dashboard in case of a check.
Along some streets (e.g. Via Romagnoli, Riva Nazario Sauro) there are also automatic machines for parking coupons but they are often out of service.
The Molo San Antonio and Talete car parks can only be paid via the coupon from the automatic machine or the Easy Park app.
There are two different parking rates depending on the parking area:
- €1/h rate is applied at the blue lines
- €1.50/h rate is applied at the Molo San Antonio, Talete, Riva Nazario Sauro (behind the Ortea Palace hotel) and via Romagnoli (next to the entrance to the Greek theater) car parks.
Parking must be paid upon arrival and the coupon displayed on the dashboard. €1/hour parking coupons can be purchased at many newsstands and bars while €1.50/hour coupons are only available at some of the businesses indicated in the image on the side. For any official information or updates, please refer to the Municipality of Siracusa.
Free parking along via Trento and via Trieste is limited to a maximum stay of 1 hour.
Free parking is available in Piazzale delle Poste (in front of the Ortea Palace hotel) but illegal parking attendants have also been reported frequently. Alternatively, you can choose between one of the various hourly paid parking areas: Riva Nazario Sauro, Parcheggio Talete or on the western side the Marina parking lot (the latter is privately managed and has its own rates and payment must be made directly to the employee). In summer or on holidays even the large parking areas are saturated as is Via Malta, the road that leads to the entrance of Ortigia. It is therefore advisable to park at Molo San Antonio, a large paid parking lot located along Via Rodi, a few steps from the historic center. Rates in municipal parking lots are €1.50/hour and there is a flat rate for overnight parking.
